The Duluth Chargers won their first MBSLA State Championship in
club history Saturday June 13
with an 8-6 victory over Hudson. The
Chargers avenged an early season 7-6 loss to Hudson with their win in
the final game. Trailing 4-3 at halftime, the Chargers controlled play
in the second half to come away with the victory. Moving the ball well
and with a balanced attack that saw 7 different Chargers players score a
goal in the game, Duluth controlled possession in the 2nd half allowing
them to come back from the one goal halftime deficit. It was the first
state championship ever for a Northern Minnesota lacrosse team.
With the victory, the Chargers were able to capture their first title. It was a culmination of steady improvement for the club and with numerous seniors, it was a fitting end to their stellar lacrosse careers. Having come away with 3rd place two years ago and a runners-up 2nd place finish to St. Louis Park last season, this years championship was satisfying.
The Duluth Chargers JV squad fell short of their own championship season with a 9-6 loss to Hudson, the only team to beat the JV squad this season.
